Well i finaly got it to work and here is how if anyone is interested

i use media portal to view tv/record shows from my set top box using girder to do the channel changes for me as well as tracking channels for on my ppc display
my tv tuner card needs to stay tuned to channel 3 but change channels on my set top box

first install all software
sql database
sql studio
tvserver
media portal
svn media portal
tvserver plugin for media portal
i use zap2it for my listings so i installed this
then tv3 external channel changer

setup the tvserver
in zap2it (advanced options)
digital cable/satellite channel mangement
put a check in the box
external video input select tuner
and then your country
check force guide to update next time tvserver starts
check sort channels

External Channel Changer setup
digits 0 - 9
click on digit 0
below select run program
click on set
to trigger girder use event.exe in the girder dir
the parmeters i use are
( mp0 18 -silent )
mp0 = triggers the event for sending ir digit 0 to the set top box
18 = is require by girder
-silent = keeps girder from displaying a pop

your done click ok and restart the tv server

this is important

    hey matis1,

If you have a program that will send the USB-UIRT commands from the command line then you can use the external channel changer plugin. I don't know if Girder would work if you aren't actually using Girder already. I wouldn't think so.

Also, I'm testing a new solution that has support for USB-UIRT and works with TV server. So you might be interested in that when it's ready. Or if you're desperate you can send me your email address and I can send you a test copy... but it's fairly complicated.

    Cheers,

Aaron, I found this old post, but it seems to be more relevant to my problem than anything I could find in the forum more currently. I have a new HTPC that I'm trying to set up MP on to use with a Dish Network box using a Hauppauge 1212 HD PVR (an analog recorder only, not a tuner; got this to work with SageTV until they got gobbled up). After many hours of head pounding and some help from a forum member, I have all my Dish channels installed in the server, mapped to the Hauppage, and displaying in the EPG. The EPG guide info in the skin is all correct. I've mapped the 0-9 and" enter" keys on my Dish remote into the usbirt screen in the "Remote" menu of the MP Config, and the "test" inside the usbirt module makes the channel changes just fine. Here's where I'm stumped. Other than the tests, I can't get MP to make the usbirt blast channel changes to the Dish box. I can watch live TV only on the channel actually playing on the Dish box. I've tried stopping and starting the server and rebooting the computer. I've tried using IR Server Suite to map the Dish remote, but I haven't been successful in putting it in any file that will work, either. If you are still around, I would appreciate any guidance you could give. I'm using latest 1.2 version of MP with Windows 7 64 bit.
