How to setup a Stream Radio Station? (1 Viewer)

In MP Config, Radio, Stations - you can add "type/stat name/freq/Genre/bitrate/server" for a station. Click Add brings up property box. Chg type to Stream allows me to use "Search Shoutca" button. Search window for "Search SHOUTcast" returns nothing regardless of what I enter. Where can I get the info needed to setup a stream station?

Cheers,
Jim

I assume this is on TV Server, since that's the config I see Radio Channels listed.

In the "add" dialog box, you only need the following items filled out:
  • Name (general tab) - e.g. "89.3 The Current"
  • URL (Web-stream tab) - e.g. "http://currentstream1.publicradio.org:80/"
  • Bitrate (web-stream tab) - not sure this is actually required

I don't have any idea what the shoutcast button is expected to do.

The best way I've found to find the URLs is to go to the radio station's web page, find their "listen now" link, and see where it goes. In many cases you can right click the link, save file as, then open the saved file in a text editor. Most of the "tune in" links at shoutcast.com (another good place to find stream information) are .pls files that can be opened this way.

No it's in MediaPortal Configuration, go to Radio, go to Stations.

The Shoutcast box is apparently suppose to search Shoutcast and return radio info to assist in setting up stations, but nothing I searched on returns anything, things like Hits, Classical, Rock, frequencies, station names, etc, things that I see on Shoutcast. It seems that the search is attempted, I mean the process is functional, just not working, hope that makes sense.

Using the info you provided I was able to set up individual stations and that works good. Thank you!

Another thing I tried worked but disable the stations I had individual setup . In MP Config, Radio, if I named a Streams folder, then I could go to Shoutcast, select a station and dl the PLS file and save it in the streams folder. Then when I launched MP, it read the streams folder for station info. Now these new stations would play but the previous stations that I had manually setup would not longer play.

The documentation in the Radio section is severely lacking, it basically repeats the same text you see in the MP config area which tells a new user nothing. If someone would spend 20 mins working on the manual this would be a lot easier to set-up. For example here is what it says about the streams folder:
"Initial screen" "Streams folder - Default: (empty)"

Yep that's it. But now I know the concept behind streaming internet radio, so it seems so pretty simple. Except I don't know why the use of the streams folder overrides/disables the other stations I manually setup. Maybe this is the way it's designed? (EDIT/UPDATE....I got the streams folder to work today just fine along with the stations I manually keyed in. I'm not sure why it didn't work yesterday.)

Thanks again!

Cheers,
Jim

Huh. Installing the TV Server plugin must disable the Radio in MP Config. Because I don't see radio listed at all - only in TV Server config. That's good to know. Maybe on my workstation I will install MP without TV Server so I can see what you are seeing and can give better advice next time.

If you have a little time to write it up, you might consider filling out some text for the Radio section and dropping a PM to someone on the docs team, like charli181. This is an open source project, and all contributions are welcome.

Thanks for following up with your own answer - things like that really help the next person searching for "set up radio stream".

actually, in previous versions of MP, this feature actually worked. i currently have the same problem. i found a plugin that i guess is suppose to work, but i havnt tried it yet. ill let you know if it works.

Edit: ok the plugin works very well. not much configuration needed. infact just enable it and go. it list all the genres you can choose from so theres really no need to search anything. plus you dont have to be in the MP config to add more stations. check it out. i'll add a link later

Peace
