How to use HIP with MediaPortal (with Tvserver) (1 Viewer)

Hey i need some help here

I've installed the latest mediaportal with tvserver. Everything is working fine and i have started to setup the remote. I'm trying to use the remote that came with my skystar2 card. I've installed HIP and im using the IgorPlug and I've set up some commands in HIP (volume/channel up/down) etc.

Now where do I go from here. I've tried searching for hours and can't find what to do next. I've tried looking in configuration but can't figure it out. How do I get mediaportal and HIP to interact?

There are a few ways ...

1. You can tell HIP to just simulate keystrokes that you know MediaPortal will listen for...

2. Use the Message Plugin (it's in the download section) and send windows messages from HIP to the Message Plugin which can then map them inside MediaPortal like the remote is fully supported.

3. Download the IgorPlug plugin for MediaPortal and use it directly. Search the forum.

4. (Warning: Shameless self-promotion ahead) Switch to the only remote control program that is "Made for MediaPortal" and fully integrates with MediaPortal 1 and TV Server. IR Server Suite (it's in my signature)

Don't get me wrong with point "4". I love HIP and it's one of the top two reasons I made IR Server Suite. So if you like HIP stick with it! Don't let me steal you away. HIP and the Message Plugin together will work very well (But I have had reports of trouble with the message plugin and I'll be releasing a new version in the next few days).

There's a config file in the Message plugin download that will work with HIP.

Thanks and-81! I tried the "simulate keystrokes" method but the response is kind of slow. Which is better out of message plugin and Igorplug plugin? Also I actually did download IR server suite...in the input service I selected Igorplug.

When i went to plugins setup in mediaportal, the "port" drop down menu was empty so I couldn't even select com1. Admittedly I didn't ask for support but just gave up. I'll try that again tomorrow!

ps. when using HIP my remote works more correctly with IgorPlug than IgorPlugXP. does IR suite support both config?
ps2. my igorplug is not usb..but connects to serial port

ok, my igorplug support is probably a little under-done at the moment ...

If you can get the IgorPlug plugin to work it would be the most direct way to get the signal to MediaPortal.

But of course, Hip in conjunction with the Message Plugin will offer greater flexibility.

I'll try to improve my IgorPlug support in IR Server Suite in the meantime.

At this stage I'd recommend using HIP and the Message Plugin.
