Well, I'm making good progress getting MP up and running. I installed MP Version 0.1.0.3 and I have almost all the hardware installed and the basic configuration is done. I still have to get the sound card and install that. Then comes attaching the system to my cable and Dish receiver and working through the channel alignment and testing to make sure I can actually get a picture.
I've finally sorted out the XMLTV problem I was having with maintaining a merged channel listing for cable and Dish thanks to the folks over on the XMLTV mailing list. I had to resort to using the old channel ID format to ensure uniqueness among the same channels that appear on both the cable and the Dish so that the 'duplicates' don't get eliminated in the merge processing. And I've sorted out the icons --- now that's a pain in the backside; the XMLTV icon download does not name them the same as the old channel listing IDs so I had to manually rename them.
I'm still having problems settling on a remote --- none of the one's I've tried so far have the right combination of keys to make MP operation 'logical' for my wife and kids. I've tried the iMon RSC, and several 'universal' remotes from X-10 and one from Panasonic that works my TV. But none of them quite 'hits the spot.'
The first 'big' test today --- I tried a DVD. I got the autoinsert message and 'Do you want to play it'. When I said yes, it responded that there is no DVD inserted in the drive! I tried both DVD drives and had the same result. The DVD is configured to use the internal player right now so if anyone can shed any light on this I'd certainly appreciate it.
