Hundreds of movies, stored on dozens of DVD data discs, how to index for MP? (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

I have about 50 DVD data discs, each with about 7 movies on them, or music videos, or animated tv series etc. It's like this because, long term, I don't keep this downloaded stuff on a hard drive, and each DVD data disc holds 4Gb+ so good for storage.

I've looked at a few plugins, but not sure what is the best way to go. What I'd like to do is present some "eye candy" so people can pick out what they want to watch. They can then go put the DVD data disc in the drive (eg Disc 14) and select the appropriate .mpg/.avi/etc (eg Jaws 4.mpg)

Is there any way in MP, that I can present this information so people can browse what's available to "pick out" the movie they want to watch?

I'm up to 600 discs and I use ANT. About half are DVDshrink copies and the other half are DVD-I discs with several Divx movies.

Each movie is a seperate entry in the ant database. I use the "Media Label" field to indicate which sleeve in my box has the disc which has the movie. So for unique DVD-Video discs, only one entry per media label. For AVI files on DVD-I discs, I'll have multiple entries pointing to the same media label.

BTW: This is my 1000 disc box I use:

Each sleeve is suspended on rails and has 2 discs (front and back) and 2 number labels from 1 to 1000.

My Media labels in Ant are formatted as A0000. "A" refers to the box, I don't expect to ever have more than 26 boxes (it took 3 years to build a 600 disc collection). And the "0000" is the sleeve number as labeled in the box.

Now, for MP; I set up MyFilms to use the ant database and show the "Media label" field. So when I search for a specific movie I can see the media label and know exactly which box+sleeve to pull to get the disc.

I've only indexed 100 of my 600 discs so far. I'm just too lazy. I have more fun ripping and burning than indexing. *sigh*

Zeuser - Where did you find the CD/DVD storage box? Hopefully online?

I had found http://discsox.com/ but it seemed a little pricey. But my wife is getting upset with our current stacks and moving them around to find her movie to watch. So I need to find some solution. I have almost 300 movie sets.

BTW - I use DVDProfiler version 2.4 http://www.intervocative.com/ and the plugin created by dukus, works great!

You can purchase online as well.

I really like how the box "works". Each sleeve is numbered and is suspended by hooks on either side. This is like my suspened folders in my office file cabinet.

Each sleeve supports 2 discs and has 2 numbers (one for each side). They're also made of special non scratch material in the middle and clear plastic on the outside. So you always put the disc in the sleeve with the label facing outwards.

The case is also lockable and made of aluminium so it protects your DVD collection during transport.

There are also 100 and 500 disc versions of this box.

Thans Zeuser - I was on the website, but not able to determine if the price of that case includes the sleeves or if they must be purchased sepperately?
