So i have windows 7 64bit and windows 8 64 bit. I am running HDPrime with cable card. i have been trying to get this thing working for past couple of hours and am not getting any where. I have the windows media center that works perfectly but i thought i would try these open source solutions. Tried XBMC, Next PVR and media portal and all of them do not work.

i installed windows 8 64 bit on a new pc

installed Media Portal 2.0 and well that crashed right away so i uninstalled it
I installed MediaPortal 1.5 and that would install everything and i can see the tuners and it scans the channels but it picks up 5 of every channel. i map them to tuners. i followed the guide here for cable cards and did everything but when i do the manual it says all tuners are busy.
I than installed 1.4 deleted everything even the database and even than the same thing. i get the channels listed still 5-6 of each but than if i pick a chnnel to watch it keeps trying for a bit and than stops saying unexpected error. on the HDPrime i see the tuner going from 1 to 2 to 3 and random without showing any picture.

    Hello and welcome! :)

First, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble - I'll try to help.

installed Media Portal 2.0 and well that crashed right away so i uninstalled it
MediaPortal 2 doesn't support CableCARD tuners yet. It would be no good for you either way.

I installed MediaPortal 1.5 and that would install everything and i can see the tuners and it scans the channels...
    Good, that sounds promising. :)

...but it picks up 5 of every channel. i map them to tuners. i followed the guide here for cable cards and did everything...
    One thing at a time.
    Can you please clearly confirm:
    1. Did you scan with all 3 tuners?
    2. Did you bump up the SDT/VCT timeout before scanning?
    3. Who is your cable provider?
...but when i do the manual it says all tuners are busy.
It is really difficult to make any comment about what might be going on here without log files.
    If you read this post...
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/cablecard-tuner-support-for-mediaportal-1.112585/
...you'll see that I ask to please always include all log files.
If you don't know how to grab log files please follow the instructions that I pointed to:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/16_Support/3_Forums/2_Log_Files

...or if you're having problems with that method:
    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Click "open log directory" in the top left corner.
    3. Zip up all the files in that folder and post/attach the zip file here.

The other thing is that I'm happy to work through this with you on Skype, TeamViewer, IRC... whatever would be easiest for you. Just let me know and I can organise that. :)

    Sounds good. :)
I've sent you a quick private message with my Skype details so you can contact me that way if that is easier.
Note that I'm based in New Zealand so there is a bit of a time difference - it is almost 3 pm on Saturday afternoon now - but I'm sure we can work around that.

    Talk to you again soon...

    Thanks! (y)
So, a few tips for you straight off the bat...

The reason why your attempts to test your channels (FXX HD, Bet HD, FX HD (EAST) etc.) failed is because you haven't installed the latest HDHR beta firmware. If you want your tuner to work with MediaPortal then you must upgrade to the latest beta firmware from here:
    http://www.silicondust.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=2484
Silicondust fixed a compatibility issue for us in that release; MediaPortal can't stream from your PRIME without the fix.

Second thing, the reason why you're getting duplicate channels and a whole bunch of "Unknown..." channels is because TV Server is not getting long enough to grab your full channel lineup information from your CableCARD. To fix this, please increase the SDT/VCT timeout setting on the "scan" tab in the "general" section of TV Server configuration to at least 60 seconds. In fact, I'd recommend 120 seconds - 60 seconds is an absolute minimum.

I note that both of these tips are detailed in the first post of the CableCARD thread:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/cablecard-tuner-support-for-mediaportal-1.112585/

For setting up with MP 1.5, I'd start following the instructions in that first post from "At this point you should see one or more CableCARD tuners...". The other info above "Acknowledgements" is also still correct and relevant as background information.

    Hope that helps... :)

got the video working. still can not figure out why I have so many channels. I changed the SDT/VCT to 120 seconds and updated the scan it found 780 some changes but I still have way too many channels listed and the EPG does not have any data in it. The HDprime does show the correct order of the channels and the names and I am using Verizon FIOS so I am suppose to get the EPG data from Verizon as well.

    here are some new logs

    Great. :)

still can not figure out why I have so many channels. I changed the SDT/VCT to 120 seconds and updated the scan it found 780 some changes but I still have way too many channels listed...
I tested our CableCARD tuner support with a Ceton InfiniTV 4 on FIOS so I know it works. From memory 780 channels sounds about right.

    Another tip... :)
You'll have a bunch of channel pairs like "XYZ East" and "XYZ West". Only one from each pair will work (probably the East ones for you). Any channels with channel number 10000 won't work so you can disable or delete them.

    Getting back to the problem...
Rescanning alone won't fix issues with duplicates and "Unknown..." names. I strongly recommend to delete all the channels and start over to get a clean list. In other words:
    1. Go to the TV Channels section.
    2. Delete all channels - select the first channel, hold down shift, press end, then click "delete".
    3. Go back to the scan section for your first PRIME tuner and start a new scan. Wait for it to complete.
After that I'd recommend to post fresh log files. I'll check them and confirm the scan has completed fully and properly. :)

...and the EPG does not have any data in it. The HDprime does show the correct order of the channels and the names and I am using Verizon FIOS so I am suppose to get the EPG data from Verizon as well.
We're not able to get the EPG data from Verizon. We tried but couldn't figure out how Verizon is sending the data. From our testing it looks like every cable provider does EPG differently. That's why the post/guide says:
You will need to use one of the following methods to get EPG for your channels:
    1. mc2xml
    2. SchedulesDirect
    3. WebGrab
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/cablecard-tuner-support-for-mediaportal-1.112585/

So you'll need to have a go with one of those methods.

Unfortunately it looks like TV Server still didn't manage to grab the full lineup info. In particular it missed a lot of channel names.
To give you a rough idea of what is going on, there are three kinds of info that TV Server is grabbing from the CableCARD. In loose terms, TV Server got 2.5 out of 3 of those parts - so maybe 85%.
Next step is to repeat - delete channels and rescan with a higher SDT/VCT timeout. There is no harm in bumping that setting right up to 5 minutes (300). That setting is an upper limit on the scan time. In your case it seems TV Server just needs more time...

[edit: In terms of duplicates, could you please give me an example (eg. "HBO") so I can look into it? Thanks :)]

...also the list is not in the FIOS order I think it is alphabetical can it be made so that io don't have to remember the new channel n umbers?
Do you mean in the "TV Channels" section of TV Server configuration, or somewhere else?
If I guessed right, just scroll over to the far left (until you can see the "channel number" column) then click on the column header (ie. where it says "Channel number"). That will sort that list by channel number. Same applies if you're looking at a channel group (ie. a tab in the "TV Channels" section).

    A couple more tips... :)
    1. The order of the channel groups defines the order channels are shown in MediaPortal.
    2. If you have a remote control and intend to select your channels using those channel numbers, be sure to untick "select channel by index (non-US)" in MediaPortal configuration as shown here: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...ion/MediaPortal_Configuration/22_TV/TV_Client
