I can't start Media Portal 1.0.RC1 (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I installed today Media Portal in my Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 and being total newby I'm having quite a few problems to start the program.

If I click Media Portal Configuration I get this error: "Failed to locate assembly\Core, version- 0.9.131005, Culture..."

If i click Tv Server Cconfiguration and try to save aftger choosing Microsoft SQL server 2005, this screen show up again and again. If I click "test" the user id and the password get red colors. I started using the "sa" id and a password of my own, then I choose my administrator name as id but it didn't work either.

I spent almost an hour trying to find a solution in internet until I discovered this forum. It's my first post.

Hi Zorg,

I've just recently done my first MediaPortal install, too, and was intending to put together a bit of a cheat-sheet on the installation process, but haven't actually got around to it yet.

I might have a couple of pointers for you, though. I did a manual install of each of the components (ie. SQL Server, etc.). Did you do a separate install of each, or a one-click install?

If you're having SQL Server problems, I'd suggest the following (assuming you're using SQL express):

1. install SQL Server Express Management studio
2. install SP2 for SQL Server express and the Mgmt Studio
3. make sure you're on at least .Net 2.0 SP1

if you've got those things installed, then you should be able to use the Management Studio and connect to SQL. You can then test the 'sa' password and if you can't connect with it, you will need to change it (to change the 'sa' password, connect to SQL with Windows Authentication - a local administrator account - then go to Security -> Logins -> sa -> password).

Once you can successfully login to the SQL Server as 'sa' via the Management Studio, you should have no problems configuring MediaPortal to do the same.

I installed everything you said and managed to start Tv server configuration, that's a good success. Then I clicked Media Portal Configuration but the error persists "Failed to locate assembly\Core etc". May be I have to do something in the TV server configuration, or it's a different problem that has nothing to do with the server configuration. No idea.

Solved! I unistalled Media Portal and installed it again and the problem disappeared. Now I can enter the Media Portal Configuration. I just only need to read some manuals to learn a lot of things. I don't even know what's the use of the TV server.

MediaPortal has a TV-Engine inbuild, which uses the Microsoft StreamBufferEngine (included in WinXP).

The TV-Server seamlessly integrates MyTV into MediaPortal and replaces its inbuild Engine.
It offers a lot more stability and nice features.
