I have always been at a loss as to why MP is lacking one crucial function which i think every Media Centre software should have.
I am talking about the ability to start recording a TV show halfway thru and keep the beginning of the show as well .

Can anyone shed some light as to why this is so ?

I have also been using SageTV which has this function and works very well. Apart from that, Sage is pretty much on par with MP but it is not as stable as MP....

    cheers...

I remember asking about this in the past - supposedly this was actually possible with older versions of MP.

It would be great, as I always see something on the TV, and wish I could have recorded it.

I guess I could always copy the timeshifting file ;)

Isn't it possible to rewind in the timeshift (pressing left-button until it displays "START" in the timeline) and press record?

I haven't tested it, but wouldn't that be the obvious way to do it?

One way or the other, I think that when you press record and selects "whole show", it should record whatever was in the timeshift-buffer on that show too.

    PS: My 220 £ Humax-PVR does this!

It was possible to do this, with versions prior to TVserver. If it ever worked with TVserver, I cannot tell because I only started using TVserver after RC1.
But I do agree, this is essentiel, and since it has been possible, it should be possible to re-introduce.
As I see it, this is not a feature lacking, its a bug in the current build.

But, it could be that TVserver in some weird way prevents this from being possible, but I really think there needs to be found a solution for this.
Its not very user friendly, and I have on several occasions had to buy my girlfriend something pretty, because she lost the middle of a TV-show because of this.

It's not so much that the feature was dropped with TVServer, it's just not been coded in TVServer.

This functionality was provided by the MS components MediaPortal uses in the built in TV engine. I know this has come up before, but I can't remember if there were particular reasons this feature has been omitted, or if the developers just haven't got round to it yet.

Have a look in Mantis to see if there is a bug/enhancement request for it.

I think i remember reading some time ago that it was not possible to implement, but i am having a very hard time swallowing this....

Maybe it's been thrown into the "too hard - not important enough" basket...

Can a dev comment on this ?

    cheers
