Hi. I just built a HTPC for my living room media pleasure and I am running the TV on a Hauppauge HVR-1600. I went to install the Media Portal and I am not sure if it is me, but the install has some major issues going through the required programs. An example is the .NET. It hangs on the download portion. So I re-start the install and now it's looking in a directory for the download.. and it is there, but it claims it is not there... blah blah blah! So I manually installed most of those and then re-started the install... It finally finished and a window popped up about the TV server. But the window looked foreign to me and I am totally clueless what to do with it...

I can not find any installation guides or manuals. There are manualls for the MP and the TV Server, but none for installation.

So I start up MP and went to My TV... it forces me to input a name... and eventually tells me the TV Server is not found.

I apparently didn't set up the TV Server properly, and I honestly don't know how.

If someone can give me a link to a proper install guide or manual, I'll try this one more time... otherwise, it will be hitting the virtual trash can, cause I HATE programs that are too complex, but there guides and manuals are written by Arabian Astronausts or something...

ezurik... at the top of this website you will see a button called "Manual". On that manual page you will find the manuals for MP and the TV server. In that manual you will see a chapter for installation and configuration. The .net issue... on the installation screen of MP... the program tells you where they want you to place the downloaded files. Are you sure they are in correct place? If .net is still a problem... it's a Microsoft issue with you PC and not a MP problem.

Regarding... "I HATE programs that are too complex" ... MP or any other PVR system for American's is complex... more so then for our European friends because of encyrption issues and TV cards that we Americans have to deal with. If your not willing to spend the time to learn this... then you should just give up on HTPC until things get easier instead of complaining that the FREE program is to complicated.

If you would have really looked to the >manual<, you would have seen
    "Chapter 2 Installation".

I see the link that states manual... and I looked at it. Did you even bother reading what I wrote and tried to say? Do you know what my issues are? Naw! You and the other jerkle just wanted to post spew. Looking thru the posts, I see I am not the only one with issues. Yes, this software might be free... but that is good... cause I am glad I didn't purchase some piece of crap with idiot support like everyone can see with your replies... It's found it's way into the virtual trashcan! I normally wouldn't give up so quickly. But the content of both replies convinces me ever so surely...

Lastly, I am 50+ years old and been programming in C, building and configuring computers since the early 80's... I really don't need you or anyone else to question my integrity or abilities. Your program installation suks, period! I am outta here! There's nothing here for me!

Which manual Einstein! There are several. Naw, forget it. I am done with this program, issue and website... Enjoy your rotten attitude!
