Idea for multiple computers using one database (1 Viewer)

Just a thought i had, haven't actually tried this, what if you had say a server machine and you installed Media portal on it and it all your information on for the HTPC, then you shared out the program files director on the network.
Then map that location on the other computers and install Media Portal on the computer to the Mapped location so you get all the registry entries in the computer, it should just overwrite the first install because its the same.
Then go to the master computer or any one computer and do all the configuring of your settings eg, codecs and stuff.

Then theoritically apart from plugins do you think Media portal could work from multiple machines using the same settings, of course you would need to have exact codecs being used on each computer. But i guess it may work for those people using multiple machines on 1 network?
What do you think?

To get the shares work you would need to share out the folders and map them all the the same drive letter, eg, videos x: , dvds, z: , music y: and the same on each computer so they all go to the one location.

Anyone want to give it a try? :)

Thoughts?

I wondered about that approach as well, and haven't actually tried it yet. But, if you check out this thread: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?t=13598

I've done some work mapping just the database folder. You'd still have to do the configuration work for the rest of the app on a per machine basis though, so we ought to look into this approach as well.

A potential drawback I see to this approach would be losing the local disk drive on the "client" machines (either that or seeing a lot of physically inaccessible drives that you've shared).
