Hello all,

I would like to know how I have to name my files so they are properly looked up in IMDB. I am using the Video screen that comes with MP (and actually, I do not want to try anything else to not make my system unstable again). Yet, when I try to let some videos being looking up in IMDB, I never get a match. To make a particular example, let us take the first episode of the TV show "Heroes". I have tried the following names without success:

Heroes.S01.01.Genesis.avi
Heroes - 1x01 - Genesis.avi
Heroes 1.01 Genesis.avi
Heroes Chapter One 'Genesis' (2006)
Heroes Chapter One 'Genesis'
Heroes Chapter One 'Genesis' (1.01)
Heroes Genesis (1.01)

and a couple more. Yet, the only filename that worked was: tt0759572.avi , but as you might agree this is not very intuitive. I have searched several forum threads related to IMDB, but with none of the proposed schemes I could succeed.

Furthermore, is it possible to see the info from IMDB directly when browsing the files? Or do I have to select the video, press Info on my remote control, and then select 3 - OFDB/IMDB to see the info?

I think that the correct approach is to determine a standard tag that can be used for IMDB identifiers (like tt0759572) that the IMDB lookup engine would use. That would give the user control over the filename, and would guarantee lookups (since IMDB has said that those IDs will not change). Another benefit is that the appropriate CD cover can more easily be chosen (it can be found, although less directly, based on UPC).

I have thought of making this my first patch proposal. However, it seems like a relatively easy fix for the developers. I believe that a whole set of standard tags could be used (IMDB, UPC, ISBN), because each allows different information to be found easily.

If there is enough interest then maybe I will give something a try in the next few days - again, if the "real" developers don't beat me to it.

Still not be able to find a fix to this, a workaround is the TV series plugin. Even I dislike to use any "not-out-of-the-box" Plugin, I gave this one a try and after some additional forum reading, I made the plugin working. Actually, this plugin is really nice, and maybe the developers want to think to include it in the "out-of-the-box" version ?
