IMDB: tagging outside MP (1 Viewer)

My ripped movies are on a server. I have no keyboard plugged into my HTPC (MP). I am able to tag movies with the remote, but if I need to enter text, I have to get a KB and plug it temporairly.

I would like to know if it's possible to tag my movies (IMDB) directly from my server. Do I need to open MP the tag the movies or is there a technique or other application that will let me do this from my home server (that doesn't run MP) and will still let me see the results (tags) within MP?

I suppose it's just like tagging MP3!?!?! There is probably multiple applications that will let me do this... I just don't know any.

Is the IMDB info embeded in the movie file or is the info kept in a MP database?

Regards.

Sadly it is very different from tagging mp3's. The information you get from IMDB is not saved into the file itself, but in the MP database.

I can give you two hints.

1. Make sure you name your files clearly. That way they will have a better chance of getting all the correct info from IMDB.

2. If you need to, you can edit the information inside the database from any computer using a tool that comes with MP. Beware that this could completely mess up your movies database, so make a backup of the file.

You will find the movie database as a file called VideoDatabaseV5.db3 (note: the V5 means version 5 and could be updated later if there are some changes to VideoDatabase usage). This file is in a folder databases that under XP would be found in your MediaPortal directory, under Vista under C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\Mediaportal

The tool needed to open this file and/or edit it, is in the Mediaportal\Docs and is called SQLite Database Browser. I copied this into the database folder.

With this info, you are on your own. Good luck ;)

There is also some other options.

If MP is not running you can perhaps connect to your HTPC with MS Remote Desktop (think you need to have XP Prof.) or some other remote software like VNC and view and edit the db with the original MP Configuration/movies section.

You can also share the MP install folder and map it to your server and form there start MP Configuration to edit the db.
