I have just rebuild my pc with everything going well, except the remote. (this is not the first time i've struggled with the remote)

There is a a very good guide here somewhere, i used it last time to set up my harmony 885 remote / antec fusion (imon remote). it really should be a sticky!

It explains how to first set up the fusion case to accept the remote commands, turning them into key strokes and then into imon commands that control set programs.

Please can anyone point me at this thread and (Admin) consider it as a sticky for the remote section of the forum. It change my htpc into something special! That all could use.
:D

Thanks TwinTurbo!

That was not the post i was looking for but it was very helpful, the Kiwijunkalist has a lot of good posts. So far, helped me set up my sammy lcd, my HTPC and now my remote.

For other info i have found the original post i was after, and more key the quote that got it all to sit in place in my head. Maybe it will help others too.

"hmm, as I said keep thinking in 4 steps
Harmony button -> MCE command -> imon keyboard shortcut -> media portal (standard key or shortcutter plugin)

1. Harmony Remote:
- Open Harmony Remote Software
- Add device: add computer -> Media Center PC -> Antec -> fill in Antec Fusion V2
- Select your newdevice in the "devices" tab. Then do "customize commands" (or "customize buttons", donno how it is called)
- You will enter the main buttons configuration page.
- here you set the EXIT key (on the remote) to be a MCE "BACK" button
- check the others and change as you please (arrow keys are also down there somewhere)
- CLick the "custom" or "additional" tab on the right top corner of your window.
- Here you can modify custom "pages" on your harmony remote. I added the "MyWhatever" buttons to it.
- SAve settings and update your remote

2.Open Imon manager
- Set manager to be MCE remote
- Click on Windows commands, there is akey set for launching imon QuickLaunch, remote it
- Click on Mouse commands (check your setting there, normally this is empty i think, it was with me...)
- Click on Program commands, add new program, enter "mediaportal"
- Add keyboard shortcuts to the available MCE commands. The shortcuts need to be the same as MediaPortal handles them, so check out the MediaPortal keyboard shortcuts and map them to the appropriate MCE Command.
- For special buttons such as MyVideo, ... add shit + ctrl + key combinations

3. Open shortcutter plugin
- check shift and ctrl flags
- set the same key as you have set in imon. For example MyMusc was shift+ctrl+m in imon, so put m in shortcutter for the music page

In step 2 i have set imon frontview to load always.
In minidisplay i have set "start frontview on exit" and restart on driver load or something like that. This allows me to have the vfd to show date and time when pc is of, and mediaportal stuff when mediaportal is running. The only issue I have is that because the driver is restarted, the mediaportal screen does not get initial focus. I have to click the mouse (active mediaportal) before my remote works. To get arround this, I mapped the "SHARP" MCE Command ( '# enter' button on harmony remote) to be a left mouseclick. So when mediaportal starts I press # and my remote works as it should."

Seems a shame to start a new topic when my questions are "kind of" related, so I'll try my luck ressurecting this one first.

I have had nothing but hassle setting up my imon / mediaportal / harmony combination.

Initially I wanted to keep the imon controller, which I tried hard to do (including using the specifically modified IRSS imon version), but could never get it to work quite right. It either seemed to interfere with normal frontview operation, or didnt work at all. In additiona my minidisplay seemed only to work in one or other app, but not both.

I had several combinations working either ONLY with MEdiaportal or ONLY with windows.

The more I looked into this the more confused I got, with people seeming to use various solutions including, but not limited to:

Standard Imon setup,
Satndard MCE set up
Using in built "remotes" section of Mediaportal
Using IRSS (with / without shortcutter)
and so on...

I have finally, semingly, acheieved a satisfactory set up, but have a few remaining niggles (which ultimately I can live with, but would love resolved).

My set up now is this. Windows 7 Ultimate, Imon (in Silverstone LC16) minidisplay running the imon version listed elswhere as the most up to date that still works with mediaportal (cant recall the version off hand as I am at work.. but I am certain it is the one refferred to several times as being suitable). Harmony 785 univeral remote. Streamed MP skin. Unsing IRSS as MCE.

Im not ver proficient at setting up IRSS. For example I understood the simple method of assigning buttons in the main config pane (i.e. selecting the funtion then just using the remote, and the button is assigned). Unfortunately this had problems when trying to assign buttons like left and right, as this just moved the focus off of the function I was assigning. Equally I was unable to remove the original numeric assignations).. but these are not my questions. They are.

Although I am fairly happy with my setup as is, I was curious if anyone had a better suggestion for default Harmony configuration as my selection (again I cannot recall, but was something along the lines of MCE 1409 remote ?!?! possibly.. please dont quote me on that, as my question pertains to what is suggested rather than what I have) as my default setup only has a couple of buttins mapped correctly by default, an not buttons like stop, play, pause etc.

I would like to have larger text, but do not seem to have read any conclusive comments on this. I have tried "graphical mode" but this only produces the same two line dislay in test, and a blank screen in mediaportal. Is there anyway to set this up

My display is verrrrrrry sloooow in updating. Again its tolerable as I dont see myself using it as a source of immediatte info, but it looks a little daft diplaying, for example, a yes/no option dialog when I have moved beyond this point by three or four steps.

Finally (and perhaps not so pertinant to this area, so I might raise it eslewhere, but any views welcome) I just cannot get imon to restart after I exit mediaportal. I used to in some of the previous configurations that failed in other ways, but I have selected the "restart imon" option in minidisplay, and even tried to run imon from the IRSS plugin that seems to offer the option to run programs on an event such as stop mediaportal..... though I am wondering if this is only if I exit mediaportal from the remote, for which I just cant workout the option, as I dont want "power" I believe.....

Anyway, and and all help greatly appreciatted.
