In XP we had a volume control with a large number of increments which worked well. It also gave a full range of volume (0-100%)
and was even custom-izable if that was desired.
I know there are some stock limitations for Vista/7 but the current limited increments combined with a max of 60% full volume is a major issue for me. I know you can get around it somewhat with 3VRX but that has issues and had crashed on several installs. Stability is the bedrock of a HTPC and the fewer external 'extras' we need the better off we all are, especially from a support perspective.
I've had to change back to WMC7 due to this (WAF). Even just getting back the larger number of increments would be a great start.
