Summary:
Add support in My Videos for multiple video databases.

Description:
It would be great to have the opportunity to have several different databases in My Videos. This could be implemented with a "Select database" menu item - much like the "Switch View" menu item today. There are many advantages to this - especially if you have a large collection of videos of different kinds. In addition to keeping different types of video views uncluttered (clean), it helps to have a more managable view if you have a large database. Examples of databases which could benefit from being separate:

  • Kids films database
  • Films for grown-ups (not adult) - option to pin-code protect
  • Adult videos - pin code protect from the wife/kids
  • Home camera family films
  • Home cam films of you and your wife (if you're into that)

A feature like this would make MediaPortal very useful in many more situations. You could use it for your films, for showing home movies from a holiday to your mother-in-law etc., all without having to worry about her seeing "Death proof" and "Day of our marriage" right next to each other :D

I've seen this suggestion being posted elsewhere on this forum, but it has never been replied to. Hope you'll consider adding support for this. Alternatively, someone could make a new plugin(s) called "My home videos" and/or "My adult videos" and/or "My kids videos" and/or "My private videos"...

Thank you for your attention developers :)

I this this is in principal an good idea, but it could also be achieved bij using just 1 Database and filering your view on Genre/Category. This would make managing the database easier than haing to manage several Databases.

I like the idea bungmin.

The only thing I could add to that is this:

The option to show different databases in the main menu.

So instead of My Videos with everything in there and having to filter or select different DB's you could just go into Kids Movies or Adult Stuff (probably have to give it a better name if your kids or wife also use the program) directly from the Main menu.

No new databases are needed to achieve this, basically you just want to add a new column and table to the existing database.
The table would contain the user defined genre + description, the extra column would contain an id linking to the new table.

Currently you can get a simular result by dividing your media-content into multiple folders. The downside of this is that you can't have the same movie in 2 different groups without have a second copy on your harddisk.
