Summary:
It would be a great advantage when some native support for WinLIRC would be added to MediaPortal so that you are able to use the cheap and easy to build WinLIRC IR Receivers and the advantages of the OpenSource WinLIRC Software which can unterstand nearly every Remote Control.

Area:
New feature for Remote Control section

Description:

WinLIRC is a great implementation of the LIRC software Package that ist widely used for many Linux Htpc Systems. It has a very good learning algorithm, whitch supports nearly every Remote Control.

I am not shure but probably this can be a start of an Implementation.

Thanks to Sven for contributing it but i have not enough knowledge to compile and use it.
Another point is that the old WinLIRC Plugin is not running under the current 0.2.2.

And maybe more advance features like the ability to turn on and off the monitor, and open/close the cd drive.

Isn't this taking us towards the MCE Replacement plugin? I don't know how it's designed, but if MCE-RP had a sort of 'remote abstraction layer', it would be possible to add interfaces for WinLIRC, (and perhaps any other button device), rather than just near-clones of the real MCE. Since MCE-RP is really well advanced, it seems a pity not to tap into all that effort, rather than duplicating it in WinLirc.

MCE Replacement Plugin doesn't currently have a "remote abstraction layer", but a new project I'm working on does (sort of). And it should be fairly easy to add WinLirc support.

I have a thread over at the MCE Replacement Plugin sub-section about the new suite of applications and plugins I'm working on called "IR Server Suite".

When I have WinLirc support built into it I will post back to let you know.

    Cheers,

Well, there is a patch floating around to fix the winlirc support that is built in to MediaPortal:

I forgot to post back when I added the winlirc support to IR Server Suite ... sorry about that.

You can download it from the MCE Replacement Plugin sub-section. But I'd advise you to wait a few days until the next test release is available.

    Cheers,

    Hi there

I've done a rebuild of the good old WinLIRC-Plugin against the last 0.2.3 RC3 and also fixed the Font in the Configuration Dialog. Everything seem to work as expected again.

I Attached the adapted sourcecode as well as a Binary .dll to copy into ypur plugins/process-Directory. I only tested with 0.2.3 RC3 and as they changed the Namespace for some classes i don't think it will work with an earlier version. use the binaries attached to this ticket for older versions.
