Hello All.
I am totally new to MP.
I downloaded the latest stable version 1.0 and tried to install on an XP system with the latest service patches.
It is 3G cpu with 2 Gig ram. 4gig free on C drive and 13 G free on the drive I want to install MP into.

I have reviewed the requirements at GeneralRequirements - MediaPortal Manual Documentation and believe I meet these.

When I first run MediaPortal_1.0_Setup.exe it give me the following error:
"MediaPortal.DeployTool has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Thus I suspected the .exe is some kind of archive and I simply unpacked the archive.
This seemed to work and I now had a few directories.
There is three directories $[31], deploy, HelpContent, and then
there are 2 files. Interop.NetFwTypeLib.dll, MediaPortal.DeployTool.exe.

If I run the MediaPortal.DeployTool.exe I get the message
"MediaPortal.DeployTool has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Immediately.

I then looked in the deploy folder and ran package-mediaportal.exe and this seemed to make more progress until I received the following errors.

...
Registering: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0\MPAudioSwitcher.ax
Extract: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0\TsReader.ax
Registering: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0\TsReader.ax
[ INFO] Installing Gabest MPA/MPV decoder...

Output folder: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0
Extract: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0\MpaDecFilter.ax

Extract: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0\Mpeg2DecFilter.ax
Registering: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0\Mpeg2DecFilter.ax
Output folder: D:\Apps\MediaPortal1p0
Extract: SetMerit.exe
[ INFO] set merit for MPA

SetMerit has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I close this and then it seems to say the installation has completed do I want to run MP. I clicked yes and I get the error message
"MediaPortal.DeployTool has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

This first time I accepted the defaults however I tried again but deselected the Gabest MPS/MPV decoder and this time the installation completed without an error however when I try and run the application I get the same error:
"MediaPortal.DeployTool has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Any suggestions?

What I am looking for initially is a time shift application for internet radio. I am under the impression that MP supports this as well as a whole lot more.
I do not have tv media card installed in my system.

I have searched the forum for help with this however I did not come accros many posts related to this or any with solutions for this problem.

If you can point me to something that will help me solve this I'd appreciate.
If you need more information let me know.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and consider this issue.

Tkman.

Could you download the installer again ?
(in case your file got somehow corrupted)

Besides please try if installing using the default path helps
    (C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal).

    Hi Flokel.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I did download the installer file a second time. It looked the same and functioned the same as the original file.
I have just uninstalled and tried a totally default install as suggested.

With the installer file I never get a chance to select anything I just get the error message.

    Any other suggestions?

If it's any use I save the uninstall info for reference.

    That's really strange.

For the installer to run you basically only need two things:
    - .NET 2.0 framework installed
    - write access to your temp folder

Besides I don't why the installer would not run

    Some other thoughts.
I was logged into an account that had Admin rights.
I'll try and install on a second system and see how that works.
Is there any known issues with Anti virus programs or running other programs while doing the installation?
