About 2 weeks ago I hadn't even heard of media portal but I had a hankering to put together a media centre machine. Being a bit of a Linux fan I had a little search for ' open source media centre' and found the wonderful MediaPortal site. So I installed the software on my XP machine to try it out (no TV card). Excellent software!, music player worked fine, picture library worked fine, weather for downtown Corby here in the UK worked OK. Even added in some plug-ins and set up (manually) EPG which worked. all was well! I borrowed a TV card off of a friend to test the TV side of things but I had a poor antenna and it was an old Hauppage card (year 2000) and I wasn't sure that I had installed the right drivers. So not suprisingly there was no TV. So impressed was I with the rest of the software that I ordered up a Hauppauge Win TV-HVR 1300 card. I installed the card together with the Hauppauge software and drivers which all worked OK with the Hauppauge software. (Although I can only get 2 analouge channels with my current poor antenna) So then, with great expectations and excitment I started up the wonderful Media portal. It worked OK!, I ran the TV setup wizard and found the 2 channels. I flicked about the various menus. All was well. Then I tried to record a bit of TV to see if it would work. It appeared to be ok. I pressed stop on the Hauppauge remote and I was prompted If I really wanted to stop. I selected Yes and then moved through other screens to see where the saved file was. Then the software froze and would not start again. I kept getting 'mediaportal.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close' So I tried re-installing and the I got mediaportal has been successfully installed but then when I tried running either of the programs I got:- configuration.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close mediaportal.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close I have since tried restoring back to before the original installation of mediaportal with and without the TV card being installed, again downloading the latest version of media portal and attempting to reinstall. and unfortunately I still get the following messages:- mediaportal has been successfully installed configuration.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close mediaportal.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close I would be very grateful if someone could help me to get back onto the right track. thanks Mike
