I have found that installing IRSS as a service does unsavory things, such as LOCKING your direct input so other devices do not work.
Not only that, it causes crashes in the IR server config among other things.
I tried on several computers with different OS' and many different versions of IRSS.
The result was the same each time.
Reinstalling as an application solved all crashing problems, and allowed me to use other devices (such as game pads)
Just an FYI if any others run into this problem, as well as a heads up to the devs.
