I'm building my HTPC in second release, so it's time to determine the hardware upgrade. Did anybody test how the new Intel Atom 330 can handle HD? For me HDReady is enough, I don't use FullHD.
Thanks for any suggestions or external links.

looks like the atom is being aimed at handhelds and cheaper internet capable pc's, so from that alone i would say it is unsuitable for MP use, would just be false economy buying.

    Hi Kesar,
I agree that with PD that the Atom is not being aimed at HTPC's. Performance wise I am not sure if you can compare the Atom 330 to my AMD Geode. In my case it comes down to the GPU rather than the CPU. I have a Nvidia 8500GT that runs 720p movies using the MPC-HC codec at 5% CPU load.
However that is if you have content that can be played with the hardware accelerated codec.
Running that same file for example with CoreAVC as codec loads my CPU up to 80-90% Which leaves to little room for MP (lagging UI response).

The proof of the pudding is in the eating: so maybe a 'shout out' to anybody with a Atom processor (and a dx9 capaable video card) can put up some experiences.

I am for one very interested to the outcome as I feel that low powered is the way forward.

    Regards,
    Ruud.
