I would like to thank and-81 for helping me figure out the MCE remote and make it completely customizable using all flavors of the Microsoft MCE Remote. You can now completely customize each button on your MCE remote to do exactly what you want it to do. It has a profile for MediaPortal that you can of course customize to your needs but has some defaults set out of the box. SO if you want your Green Button to start MediaPortal just set the "Start" remote button to an Application Event of "mediaportal.exe". You can do so much more.

I can't thank and-81 enough!!!!

Check it out if interested...

    What exactly does this do that IRSuite doesn't?

    I've tried IRServerSuite and got the remote partially working, I found it far too complicated to get running correctly with programs and configs all over the place. I also - having a learning remote - wanted to add additional virtual buttons on my remote and map these too, so that I have more buttons than the standard MCE remote and map them in additional to all the standard MCE ones onto my remote.

    Does this cater for that? Is it a pain in the arse to setup?

    Well to answer your last question "Is it a pain in the arse to set up?" I refer to our slogan:

    "Have you tried Girder, HIP, or any of the other remote applications and gotten frustrated with how complicated they were to setup and use? Intelliremote take the approach of “keep it simple and stupid” to make using and customizing your remote as easy and painless as possible. Intelliremote aims to provide an experience similar to owning Apple hardware, Sony TVs and luxury German cars; things just work, they feel right and every now and again you get that "oh, it does that too? awesome!" feeling."

    OUT of the box Intelliremote supports the MCE commands for all profiles. So if you are using MP it works, using Itunes it just works.

    Now for adding custom buttons you should be able to do that too. It may take a little bit to do but once you do one button the rest are the same. You basically click on "Learn Code" and then press the button you want on your remote and that button is now mapped to that key in the profile.

    It is a shareware trial version so feel free to give it a shot and I am available to answer questions on the Intelliremote forum.

    The reason I asked is I downloaded it and have tried to learn additional button presses (not MCE remote codes) through my MCE reciever and it doesnt do anything even though I see the red light on the reciever light up :/

    Under Start->Programs->INtelliremote->HID Tester

    Run that application and press the buttons on your remote and see what the raw output is. If you see the MCE IR receiver light up but nothing happens in Intelliremote then the IR signal you sent is not being mapped into a HID command. Run that application to diagnose.

    The MCE translates IR signals into codes through the driver but can only translate a certain spectrum call the RC6 protocol. So make sure your remote is sending that protocol.
