Interest in developing: where to start? (1 Viewer)

I have been looking at MediaPortal for some time now with interest, but have postponed actually 'digging in' until I had a HTPC machine. Since last week however I now fall in the lucky category of dedicated HTPC owners.

Initially I did a survey of existing projects, and although none do everything I like, I believe MediaPortal is closest to what I am after.

Having looked at some of the source code and having dug through the Wiki and site however I am somewhat dismayed at the lack of documentation to help me get 'into' the system. Is there a 'secret stash' that I am overlooking? Or is this a seriously 'underdeveloped' area of the project?
