ION platform robust enough for Mediaportal? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I've been using Mediaportal for ages. Through years, I had it run on a variety of platforms and configuration, the current one beeing a repurposed Mac Mini (not the last version, the one with the Intel GMA graphics) running WindowsXP through Bootcamp. It's small, silent, plays 720p and 1080p MKVs flawlessly, but tends to become limited when handling MP's latest skins like StreamedMP.

Recently, many nettops based on the ION platform have been launched. I'm considering dropping the mac mini for one of these little machines (like the new Zotac MAG ION), but I'm worried about the raw CPU power needed to run Mediaportal smoothly. Does the dualcore Atom 330 chip have enough horsepower for that? Will MP be able to use the GeForce 9400 HD decode/playback capabilities? Will it be done natively, or through some directshow filters like ffdshow or CoreAVC?

Experts, please enlighten me on this - any advice would be greatly appreciated ;)

Thanks a lot in advance !

From all I have read no it cant handle 1080p encodes unless they are the proper format and the proper settings were used to make them use hardware acceleration. If you really want the ITX form factor look into the Zotac nvidia 9300 board, I decided to use it in my new build, havent ordered anything yet but thats what I will be going with.
