iPhone / TV Server (1 Viewer)

Cool - I've just installed Zodttd's vlc4iphone (0.9.8) Beta on my ipod touch (2.0.1 firmware) and successfully connected to a TV server RTSP stream - so live TV on my iPod Touch

It's not perfect - the video stutters at the moment, audio is fine - but then again I haven't looked at changing any settings yet.

Just thought you'd like to know.

I was googling about rtsp streams on the iPod Touch and came across this software at the weekend, it seemed very interesting. I've yet to jailbreak so bookmarked it, to come back to later. I'm glad it works!

Imagine an MP TVClient app for the iPhone/iPod Touch, not too far away!

Haven't jailbroken my iPhone yet (don't know if I ever will), but a working TVserver client would make me do it instantly.

I am definately very interested in something like this.

Here's some screenshots.

I upgraded to 0.9.9 and it improved things, video is still jerky though - depends which channel I watch.

It's always in portrait and you can't rotate or zoom. But it's still early days.

I have also tested using VLC on my TV server to transcode a TV Server stream to lower quality and stream it on a lower bandwidth so I could connect to it over t'internet - that worked too.

I then had dreams of asking Big_Kev to update his MP web interface to show what's on now, and when you clicked on a program it'd tune the tv server in, fire up VLC on the tv server to transcode and stream over internet - that way I could watch TV on the ipod from anywhere.......and then I woke up.

Not been following the Ipod Touch seen for a while now but have had one since they came out; think I am on jailbrake 1.1.4; is it worth going to 2.0.1?

I was looking forward to the much hyped safari with proper full screen, and lost interest when i found out they had dropped that....................there goes my glorious touchscreen remote plan!

Can you run the old apps on it or do they need to be re-compilled for v2?
Is there an easy 1 click, do it for me, hack app out there?

I don't think that we are too far away from it. On-the-fly transcoding to h264 stream in vlc sounds nice. I reckon someone, if not the legend that is Big_Kev, could implement a link between MP Interface/EPG/vlc4iphone.
