I’ve been searching the forum for a few hours now and I still don’t get it. So sorry if this is a double post… anyone out there using IPTV from Telia and have it hooked up to MP TV Server?

Today I have ComHem cable TV (DVB-C). I have MP TV Server and hooked up to it is a FireDTV with a CAM and all that stuff, things work great : )
But ComHem have pissed me off in so many ways trough the years that I really want to change provider for TV. There are more and more providers coming now and they are all using IPTV, Telia is one of them that some of my friends use and “it just works”.

I have been an MP user for many years and can’t imagine myself going back to using a set top box and be limited with their crappy EPG, no recording possibilities, and no being able to watch TV in living room or bedroom and all other crappy limitations that you have to live with if you don’t use MP.

So now to the million dollar question, is there anyone using IPTV from Telia and have it hooked up to MP TV Server? How did you do it? What are the limitations? What works and what don’t? please help : )

Doesn't Telia use Motorole (previously Kreatel) STBs w/o SmartCard solution?
If so, there is no way to get the encrypted channels in MediaPortal without going via an analogue TV-card.

The unencrypted channels can be added via the IPTV "plugin" for TVServer - same goes if your provider uses a SmartCard solution.

I have no idea what Telia use, didn't think about it when I was at my friends house... bit I will start my investigation after the weekend when I'm back home if nothing turns up here.

As Spragleknas said analouge capture is the only solution. I use a PVR150 connected via s-video and a blaster for automatic channel change. Recordings are decent but if you come from Comhem with digital captures you wont be satisfied. Using a Hauppauge HD-PVR instead will give higher quality but it still wont be as good as Comhem and Telias broadcast bitrate is low.

My 2 year free period of TV from Telia have recently ended and since I already use a dvb-t card for the free channels I'll probably go with a Boxer subscription instead since it's nice to have better quality recordings.

If Telia were to switch to MPEG4 and make it possible to record the streams directly on computer it might be a good choice but for now there's better alternatives.

I have talked to some friends during the weekend and it seems to be no good way out of this crap yet. The only channel I really want is ESPN America (formerly NASN) and I can’t get that one on Boxer, not yet anyway. So I’ll stick with ComHem for now, but it really suck : (

    Thank you guys!
