I have spent about a month getting MediaPortal installed and generally running well. Half this time has been trying to get Myblaster to work with the mce blasters to change channels on a cable box and a satellite box. I have finally come to the conclusion that MediaPortal will only support one blaster. Myblaster plugin will train for two ports but Mediaportal only loads one ports data and always sends to port 1 no matter which card the TV channels are on. I have posted 3 topics on the forums with no replies so I would at least like someone to confirm this. Thanks.

I believe this is the case. Smirnoff was working on getting both ports going but he lost interest (I think that was the case anyway) in the plugin so at the moment it still waits for someone to pick up where it was left off.

Are you saying you want to have one of you blaster controlling the cable STB and the other controlling the satellite STB ?

I have a similar config with one blaster controlling my cable stb and the other controlling my amp.

Rather than using myblaster Im using HIP. It took me quite some time to work it all out, but in the end it works brilliantly.

There are lots of posts with how to set HIP up and more importantly they are probably better worded that I could do it justice.

If this is what you want and you get stuck Ill see if I can explain it better.

    2 ir blaster ports

Yes, martyyn that is exactly what I want. I did try HIP but I couldn't work out how to get MediaPortal to talk to it. I was also worried that, as I have the mce keyboard I would lose its functionality, or have program its keys and mouse into HIP. You mention there are lots of posts on how to set HIP up but I have found lots saying use HIP etc but only 1 on how to use it and that was for another mediacentre program. I will look again, but I would prefer Myblaster to work.
Thanks again to martyyn and Callifo

    fwal,

I would love to write a long reply but at the moment both work and the dreaded WAF have higher priorities :(

What I will say quickly though is that what you are trying to achieve is possible. Its just not an easy road to go down. Ive been trying to get this to work for months and only just now have I managed it.

So you can understand why the WAF is so low !

You will need to look at as many posts about Hip, Hipsend and MPExCmd as possible to get this going. I will definately try and write about my own experiences but it wont be in the near future Im sorry.

This quickly is what my set up does.

I use the MPExCmd plugin (from the plugin tabs) to call HipSend. What HipSend does is send a 'command' to Hip to say 'do this'. I have Hip mapping the 'do this' to the STB blasters appropriate command.

You have to have Hip running when you are doing this in MP btw.

I too had an MCE keyboard and I sold it thinking it wouldnt work after I changed the MCE dll to the Hip one. It turns out that all I needed to do was remove all the global settings and it wouldve been fine :(

I couldnt get MyBlaster to work to save my life and could find very little on how to get it working. Hip, HipSend and MPExCMD on the other hand at least gave me enough information for me to play around until I could work it out.

Maybe I didnt stumble across the appropriate posts about MyBlaster, but I couldnt work it out.

    blaster operation

Thanks martyyn. You have already given me a couple of things to follow up when I get to it. I have spent most of the weekend changing the setup so I can change channels on the satellite card at least. The mce blaster has so little power that I had to dismantle the box and remove the IR window.

Haha, mine are cellotaped to the front of the windows !

Keep the faith, you will manage it in the end. Like i said it took me several months of trying all manner of things but now Im there I can bask in the glory 8)

The single most important thing I got was someone confirming that I was on the right track. That was enough for me not to give up. Marcus in Melbourne, thank you again !!
