Hello,
I am trying to use an IR Receiver that came with my desktop to controll MP. When I plug in my IR Receiver, Windows recognizes it and it is listed in Device Manager under Human Interface Devices as a USB HID. I was trying to use winlirc, but it needs a com port and i don't think windows has assigned it one, since it sees it as a HID.

The IR Receiver is a Sony Vaio PCVA-IR5U, that came with my Sony Vaio Computer for use with Giga Pocet software. MP is so much better looking and with TV Server it has support to keep my desktop in the bedroom, hooked to my bedroom tv, while allowing me to hook up my laptop in the den for use with my HDTV.

I am needing help trying to get my ir receiver to controll MediaPortal. Any suggestions? I have just installed MP and will be purchasing an HDHomeRun for use recording ATSC.:D

HIP

:D
I found a program called HIP that will recognize almost any HID device and can even map the input to other commands. I configured mine to map in input signals to keyboard commands that correspond with the remote commands. Just thought that maybe i can help someone in the future, if they are trying to use the same sony hardware that i had. I know how bad it is to google a problem and find forums with unanswered endings.

Hi

I also have the Sony IR5u Receiver, but I am trying to use it with Vista 64bit and a HarmonyOne Remote. Unfortunatly HIP does not work on 64bit machines. I have tried Eventghost which recognises the Receiver as a sony IR5U HID Device. However i cannot get the remote to do any thing with it, I have tried many different devices on the remote includeing Vista media centre, mce , ir6u but nothing registers on the remote.

Have you got further with it? would appreciate any input you may have.

Ultimately i would want to control Vista Media centre, and maybe other apps such as itunes etc.

Thanks
