Hi All,

You know the scenario - you (or the kids) have watched a programme or video and it's showing as "played" as you scroll through the list but you can't tell if you've watched all of it or only part of it unless you click "play" :(

The dialogue that opens asking if you want to resume playback from XX:XX gets that info from somewhere so surely that can be used to show a progress bar for any programmes/videos that have been played? I've had a go at getting this to work but haven't managed to come up with the answer

Anyone got any ideas on how to achieve this?

Cheers

Bleazle

    What a great idea!

I wouldn't like to see the percentage but if the development team could add a function in the skin engine to display a different colour in the video list when the file is played between 5 and 95% it would be perfect !

Just to clarify - I don't want to show the percentage played as a figure, I want it shown as a progress bar like the one you get when you pause TV, or in the Now Playing screen of MyMusic (in BleazleWide anyway) etc

No replies so I'll assume MP can't do this  Bummer, the reason I built an HTPC in the first place was because I saw something like Tivo (not sure what it was) when I was in the UK about 7 years ago and it showed how much of each recorded programme had been watched - thought this would be easy for MP :(

Hey Bleazle, Have you looked into this any further? Now I know nothing about about code but this seems like it would be easy for a skinner to place in any xml......as it would be just a graphic getting it's data from wherever MP stores the time already watched.......maybe I'm way off base here or maybe not???? Cool idea btw!!

I agree - in fact that's what I said in my first post:

...The dialogue that opens asking if you want to resume playback from XX:XX gets that info from somewhere so surely that can be used to show a progress bar for any programmes/videos that have been played?

..but either no one knows what this code is (?) or someone knows but doesn't want to share (not a likely scenario since MP is all about people sharing!) or as I suspect, MP can't do this :(

I'm stuck until someone answers this either way...

This is a great idea and I don't think it is that much work but would probably need a change to the MP codebase. Just trying to figure out how you would want this to work though...

If MP exposed a property as a % of what watched (given that MP knows run time and resume time this can be calculated) I guess you could set an image in the skin based on this value? Issues I can see though are keeping it updated. If say you go to recorded TV play a recording and then go back so TV is in mini-display the program will continue playing but % played would not change.

Would a simple % played value be sufficient for you to do this?

Great to hear that you think this can be done :)

Personally I want this info on the RecordedTV screen as an image (possibly with XXX:XXX played on the left & XX:XX remaining on the right of the image, but that's not crucial to my mind) Something like the mockup below.

With regards to a User going to the RecordedTV screen while watching a recorded programme if the bar could be "live" for that programme (as per the music playing progress bar) that would be the best, but if not it could be hidden with a visibility tag anyway.

    What do you reckon?

The key here is whether you are expecting this progress bar to be a widget controlled by plugin (in which case this is a reasonable amount of code change) or whether you are going to control this via the skin and exposed skin variables? (this is how star ratings are controlled in most skins yes ?????

One idea I had was setting the actual listview background based on progress (The newer versions of Excel can do this with tables and looks quite good) not too really looked into skinning in much detail to know whether this is possible though...
