Is there a way to mark videos watched and unwatched? (1 Viewer)

I've looked all over and I can't seem to find it. Maybe it's not possible or maybe I'm just using the wrong search terms.
I have about 500 movies ripped to avi format on a server and every room has an HTPC with MP 1.0 on it.
I regularly add new movies to these. Sometimes they are new. Sometimes they are movies we haven't seen and sometimes they aren't. Scrolling through 500 or more movies every time we want to watch something can be a bear.
What I am looking for is a way to "tag" or "mark" movies that we haven't seen so they can be readily viewed.
I would like to be able to sort this way as well. Is there a setting or plugin that will let me do this?
I've seen a "mark as viewed" somewhere but it doesn't help with the easy sorting of movies based on whether or not it has been watched.

If nothing has been made that does this, then there's an idea for a plugin for somone capable of writing it.
What would be even better is if there could be an icon representing each person in the family. Each family member could toggle their icon on and off (dark or bright) by clicking on it. This information would be be placed in the file with the movie itself so that even if one of my kids watches a movie in their room, it would be marked as watched when they view the movie list in the family room. Then anyone could sit down and sort movie based on whether they have seen them or not.
