Hello.

After reading countless threads, everyone appears to agree that the MS MCE remote is one of the best basic remotes to go for. I've just found the following auction on eBay for MCE remotes that appear to look identical to the MS one but the description mentions that they are manufactured by Philips for Dell.

Please could someone tell me if this is a genuine Microsoft remote or not? Also, some of the remotes appear to have two buttons at the top but these eBay ones only have one. Why the difference? I think the missing button is for turning TV on and off and maybe the Dell PCs that these remotes came with did not have TV cards.

Cheers,
Roo.

PS These look to be the cheapest MCE remotes that I could find after you include postage - £13.99 + £3.99 = £17.98 all in. Bit of a bargain I think.

no... this is not a "genuine" Microsoft MCE remote...

BUT

It is an OEM MCE remote... that is why it is missing a button... you will not be able to program the remote to control your TV...but other than that (and only coming with one blaster) it is functionally identical to a genuine microsoft unit.

It does seem to be a good deal...

I bought this remote last week in a store and works very smootly with MP. No more need of a mouse and keyboard.

I got one of these remotes with a Dell machine I bought a while back, it's basically identical to my "geniune" microsoft remote apart from it's lacking the standby button for the TV and also the plastic on the back is a bit different.
