Hi I'm running the prvious stable release and would like to update to the current. I'm looking at this page
http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...ation/2_Updating_MediaPortal?highlight=update
and it talks about uninstalling and reinstalling MePo. Is this the correct thing to do?
Can I not just run the deploy tool and let that do everything for me?

Cheers Jake

You sure can, but make sure tvservice is stopped and mptray is closed prior to any upgrade.

We prefer the uninstall\reinstall option with a reboot just to make sure any old files are deleted, but really the deploy tool should do that.

If you are worried, then backup the Mediaportal folders (always a good idea), both program and data, so I have in a backup hdd, with a folder named mediaportal with 2 new folders, one name Program and the other Data, I then copy each section of Mp to its appropriate folder, data will take sometime to move as its loads of little files, so be prepared.

These can be found at these addresses on a 32bit system.

    C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal
    C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

You need to stop mptray which you will find in the systray if you are using that.

TVServer settings are maintained by the SQL program, ie MySQL, so nothing to backup.

The only thing I would say, is reinstall all the latest version of plugins\skins (use the desktop MP extensions installer to do that), then if the worst happens, just restore the main folders from the Program Data folder you have backed up, ie Database and Thumbs folders, this will pretty much put back a working system in around about 1 hour, but with all brand new program\plugin files.

This may seem overkill, but beilieve me it makes restoring a not working install easy.

Once fully updated and working, you might then want to backup the new installation just in case.
