forgive my ignorance! totally new to the theatre scene!

I am using a DVI adapter to HDMI cable, is it possible to work in another application on the same computer as someone else is watching a movie through Mediaportal? can the DVI output be isolated?

many thanks

You would need two outputs from the PC, and then configure some dual desktop. However I'm not sure how good this works, alot can go wrong and you need a strong comp(that shouldn't be a prob for you how ever) to handle heavy programs without it making video/sound stutter. I havent tried it my self but others who have can probably tell you how good/bad(if at all) it works.

I don't get exactly what you are trying to do. Is it that you have two outputs (e.g. DVI and VGA) with two displays? I believe this IS supported by MP. Config->General and pick the screen to run on. Like Darre says, though, I don't know how well this would work.

Or do you just want to run another app over remote desktop or VNC while MP is running on the single screen? I believe that if you set up a second user account on Windows and enable fast user switching you can do this. Some users around here, as I recall, run configuration over remote desktop while MP is running on the screen. Haven't done it myself, so can't speak much to it.

My thoughts on the matter is that MP is a great HTPC program, but it's really best when used on a dedicated HTPC.

Simplest thing to do is to just get a cheap laptop for word^^ But I dont know how well it works, someone who does will probably reply some time =)

If the plasma and the other display are set up in dual display mode (screen 1 and screen 2) then just tell MP to run on whichever screen is the plasma (configration, general). See what happens.

got it running on the second screen (plasma) was a little tricky to setup in the displays manager of ccc, just need to setup the audio as the standard dvi-hdmi adapter has no audio. just my luck from a million cables i have, not one suitable! will also use the ati wonder plus remote when it arrives.

many thanks for your help, great forum
happy holidays! :D
