I have a WinTV950Q. WinTV7 working good, but ugly, and seems so out of date. Got MediaPortal working, but found like 300+ channels, many of them encrypted. I have read the manual, and it confuses me on how to get the channels sorted out and get a channel guide. Other than that, it looks great.

Basically, right now, I have list of channels with such things as "Unknown 685250-32" which I managed to write down as ION, but just not sure how to make this things work and be simple for me and family. Please point me to the forum for slow people. Thanks.

in MP parlance, a TV Guide is an EPG. EPG's differ depending on what country you are in. There are a number of ways of getting them working. Two common types are XML and DVB. XML is a file you download and parse with the XMLTV plugin in Mediaportal TV config. DVB comes through your TV aerial (like with a set top box) and is enabled in TV Server config. Its possible to use both together (ie DVB and XML) for respective channels.

I suggest the first thing you do is do a Title Search in the forum for "EPG" and try some of the systems that work in the US.
