    Hi there

First, let me apologize if this is a stupid question :)
I have been using MediaPortal for quite some time and have a nice setup doing most of what I could ever dream of.

For my music collection, I have the following folder structure:
    Artist \ Album

For each album in the structure, I have a folder.jpg file with the cover of the album.
However, I would love to also have a folder.jpg file in the artist folder. That would make my music collection so much cooler.

I was wondering if Fanart Handler is the plugin that could help me with this? I'm not sure, but it would be nice, and sounds as though it is not too far out :)

So, to make myself perfectly clear, I was hoping that this plugin could run thru my music collection and when it finds an artist named 'Madonna' it would automagically download a small picture of Madonna and place it in the Madonna-folder with the name folder.jpg

    Is this at all possible?

Thank you all in advance for any help with my question.

    /Simon

    Hi,

The plugin will search your music database and try to download artist images (thumbnails). The images will be stored in your /thumbs/Music\Artists folder. The path cannot be changed.

    best regards

Of course this only works when your music is tagged correctly. If so, it is better to use the db views and you would get the Artist thumbs directly displayed when browsing by artist. So do the following:
    1. Make sure your tags are correct. Use MPTagThat for example. If your folder structure is completely strict you can use that to set the artist tag based on the folder name (as
well as the album tag). What do you do for compilations?
    2. Scan your music db
    3. Let last.fm and/or Fanart download all Artist thumbs.
    4. make a copy of the folder /thumbs/Music\Artists
    5. Use a renaming tool to move the copied thumbs to the right directory with the name "folder.jpg".

Then you have thumbs in db views as well as shares views.

    Thank you for your replies.
All my albums are tagged correctly (please don't ask me how long that job took :))
As for compilations, they are still in the "to-do" box... My plan is to type "Various Artists" in either Artist or Album Artist - how does that sound?

I think I will backup my MediaPortal computer, install Fanart Handler and copy the download images.

    Thank you for good advice.

    Hi Simon,

Various Artists in Album Artist is the right way. Then you can add the real artist in the Artist field and you would still have one album (mp datamodel expects the combination of Album / Album Artist to be unique, so all tracks with these two fields set the same will be in the same album).

Actually there is a standalone .exe file that will extract the artist images from mp database and store them in the aritst directory as folder.jpg

please read the forum posts prior to using it

    5. Use a renaming tool to move the copied thumbs to the right directory with the name "folder.jpg".
Then you have thumbs in db views as well as shares views.

The standalone .exe I posted does this step for you automatically
