Key mapping - key box greyed out (I"M GOING CRAZY) (1 Viewer)

I can't work out what I am doing wrong, when I go to map a remote key or joystick key, there is no way to tell it which key to use, the box is greyed out like its locked.

I tryed installing the keyboard mapper plugin and same thing. Thre must be something I am not doing.

Is there a guide to mapping keys?
