Key mappings (2 Viewers)

Is it possible, and if so, how, to map a key to actions like goto tvguide, goto myvideos, goto mytv etc? Because I have some spare buttons on my remote...
There is a plugin that can handle all that, but it seems to me that this should be possible in mediaportal itself.

I was looking in the key and sounds part of mediaportal configuration, but I could't find such actions

Well, you want to configure remote, so look at the remote section for clues.
See this screen for example:


So there will be predefined actions for various screens. But you can also link to any other window plugin by manually editing the remote xml file and linking to the plugin window id. For example:

Indeed I'm using a remote, but it is an iMON remote, and I'm not using the iMON plugin, because I can't get it working, and I did some hacking with the iMON dll's so that it works with some other software I made, and I need full control on the VFD.
The driver iMON provided lets me assign key-presses to the remote buttons, so a mapping key->action will suffice for me.

So the question remains:
Should I create an action in the config\keys and sounds\global actions, or in the windows section, or somewhere else?
And what action does a goto "windowid"?

use shortcut'er plugin to map keyboard shortcuts to jump to different window id's / plugins etc.

That was indeed the plugin I was referring to in the topic start.

I was wondering if this functionality is in mediaportal itself.
But the fact that someone made a plugin for it, looks like an answer to my question.

You can also configure some things in MP configuration -> General -> Keys and sounds. There you can add actions for specific keys (but you need the extra plugin to reference e.g. ctrl-K). Be aware that the key configuration is overwritten when installing weekly builds (last time I checked), so back up the .xml file if you are going that route.

I did check that section, but as I asked before: What action do I need for goto WindowId?

That's one of the things you can't do there
So go for the plugin.

If your using the inbuilt mp remote handler (ie not using keystrokes) then you can edit the .xml file in input device mappings in appdata directory to point any remote button to any window id.
