I have finally been able to see my analog channels with MediaPortal, here is what I have learnt:

1) Don't use software based analog cards, only hardware based. Otherwise you will be in big trouble (PCTV 300i: failure, Hauppauge HVR-1110: failure). Now I have an Hauppauge HVR-1300 and everything seems flawlessy until now.

2) For the pioneers something called GraphEdit exists to tune the flow of DirectShow filters and try to let you analog software based card work. You need a degree to understand how it works.

3) For Italy you need to tune SPANISH channels. It is a bug still the team has not acknowledged.

4) Mediaportal shows as encrypted channels which are not. You must manually check them one by one

5) TV Server goes crazy if you remove the first card on the top of the list. You must manually uninstall and reinstall deleting the database.

6) TV Remote support does not exists for channel moving/grouping/deleting. You have to do this via TV server. Take a Pencil and a piece of paper and write down changes you will later perform in TV-Server. Very annoying.

7) In TV Server channel are always shown in the "all channels pane" even if you "move" them to groups. Better use the terms "Copy"... having 3 TV Cards and 1400 channels it is really a mess.

8) EPG Is still a mistery for me.

9) Have a good friend which sells hardware and let you try TV Cards, otherwise you will go back and forth to the post office, like I did, to send back you TV cards.

10) Always search the forums for a card name to discover if others had bad experiences with your preferred TV cards before you will buy it.

11) When you reach a stable setup save everything with something like Northon Ghost. Then start from that point to improve you configuration.

12) If you dream about PayTV you must learn about CAM, CI, encryption standards. Another degree is needed here. Very few people have this setup.

13) Always read the Wiki, the first steps, the basic requirements, use an updgraded to the latest fix OS.

14) Support forums are there but most often you won't receive answers. Developers are too busy working on the latest release. :)

15) Hardware radio channels ? Who tried ? Too busy to let the TV analog part work !

16) If you like MediaPortal and whish to contribute: Donate ! Money, TV-Cards or Time if you are a developer.

0) (Too lazy to renumber everything) Forget about the word "simple". It is an adventure full of hidden and undocumented places.

Thanks for sharing.
The MP learning curve is deep if you want to get the most out of it. The videos for me were the most helpful on basic set up. New ones are needed for this new version of MP. Some blogs are good too on settings. MP is getting better and I wish I had time to document things better myself. Maybe one day when I have the time.
I would love to get the EPG working. I wish there was a book/manual on how to configure it. Instead I am left to reverse engineer things which is ok but not quick. Perhaps the biggest thing is to figure out how to do a manual cleansing prior after an un-install to get rid of all settings. This is essential if you have had older versions and tried customizing things.
