LNB Off (power saving) with TBS 6981? (1 Viewer)

My system is MediaPortal 1.3.0.0 as TV-Server on a HP N54L with Windows Home Server 2011 and a TBS 6981, driver V2.0.1.6.

I found out that the TBS 6981 switches the LNB supply voltage on when one of the tuners is used for the first time. (Measured with volt meter at the sat cable). The power consumption of the server increases about 5W in that case.

The TBS 6981 does not switch the LNB supply voltage off when the tuners are idle again. The power consumption stays increased. Can anybody confirm this?

The power consumption can be reduced again by rebooting the machine or stopping the TV-service.

For a 24/7 system it would be nice to switch LNB off if tuners are idle. The TBS 6981 seems to be able to switch LNB supply. Does anybody know why this is not working? Is LNB off unsupported by MediaPortal and/or TBS 6981 drivers?

Thanks
Frank

    Good question.

I have the same card and running 24/7 and an extra 5W adds up:

    24 x 7 x 365 = 61320 hours x 5W = 306.6 kW hours = o_O and at a cost for me of .20 euro per kWh = 61.32 euro a year!

Woooow, in Ireland you guys have years with 2555 days!! Jesus Christ! :D :D

You added an extra 7 when getting the amount of hours in a year, so the final answer is 8.76€ a year ;)

Actually the additional power consumption depends on the lnb. If your lnb draws 300mA at 18V it adds about 10W on the 230V side due to limited efficiency in PC power supply and in 12V to 18V conversion.

Hi xpilot, the TVE 3.5 is a new tvserver which will function with mp1 and mp2. He is still in development and there is afaik no release date at the Moment. So you have to wait until he is finished.

Perfect. I will wait for TVE 3.5 to be released. In meantime I will enjoy MP as it is which just updated to 1.4. Great Software. Thanks!

Comming back to this really old topic.

I'm still running MP1 with TVE3. MP2 with TVE 3.5 is still no option as it has no support for webaccess or at least a way to access from an Android device yet.

I'm fine with that as MP1 works perfect and still gets frequent maintenance and feature updates.

Is there any plan or chance to add LNBOFF to MP1 / TVE 3?
