I am going nuts, I have been having lockups, complete system lock ups that is, after watching a movie and stopping it. I have found that this is directly related to using SPDIF and only when the computer is out putting digital surround. I can tell it is digital 5.1 when the big blue light turns on on the Sony receiver. If I set the Mediaportal to the following it will lock the computer after exiting a movie. In MP configuration under DVD - DVD Codecs > I set the Audio decoder to MPA Decoder Filter (AC3Filter never gives me digital 5.1. I have no idea why). Then I go to Direct show filter control and set MPA Decoder on both AC3 and DTS to SPDIF. I can then watch a movie in wonderful surround. When I skip back to the Movies page in MP and click stop, as soon as the movie stops the computer locks up. Oh wait, it gets worse, my sound card installed a program called sound effect manager in the control panel. If I launch the program and keep it open when media portal is running I can watch what ever I want in MP and start and stop movies as much as I want with no trouble at all. But, if after doing this I close MP and the Sound effect manager the computer will lock up within seconds. I have no clue but need help please. Am I doing something terribly wrong? I some codec opening a channel to the sound controller and locking the computer when it closes this channel? Thanks

... I am going to install windows service pack 3 for testing.

HELP.. please

Anyone? Please help with this. My computer has a brand new fresh install. All hardware checks out. Latest version of MP. Only happens when SPDIF decodes digital. Thanks

I have no idea what your problem is, but are you willing to try out a few things?

Maybe it is codec related. Can you try Goose's codec guide? See the Codec guide in the manual.

If it still fails, collect your full logs with Mediaportal's Watchdog and report back with it.

    attempt 1

ok, I did as instructed. No 5.1 digital surround at all. This is an optical SPDIF out sound card Realtek AC95. The only way I can ever get surround out of it is by using the MPA Decoder for SPDIF but can guarantee a lock up when the DVD is stopped. Ho could I get the logs if the PC needs to be powered off after a movie? Thanks for the reply. I was getting worried no one would want to touch this.

Ok, not I reconfigured the ffshow audio codec and then used MP configuration to tell DVD playback to use that codec. Now, when I play a movie, 5.1 digital functions no matter where you are in the DVD playback. Thats fine by me since the codec has proven it's ability to stream 5.1. The problem is that as soon as I end playback the computer locks up. So, different codec, 5.1 digital, locks up. Man... what you think? I will attempt to reinstall my sound driver now

I had similar problems, so I switched my audio codec to ffshow. Since using ffshow I haven't had any audio problems with SPDIF to my receiver.

Thanks for the reply zanlation, I am current using ffdshow, when I have the option to decode to 5.1 it causes the same issue. Any other ideas?
