This program is fantastic and I am so amazed it has been created and evolved by an online community! Having installed it and a few of the plugins and seen the plethora of customisation available has only whetted my appetite further.

Unfortunately I cannot get any video playback from real DVD's (get error message "Cannot play DVD - Did you insert disk?" ) Or from ripped DVD's (No error message) but Motion Picture shows duration of files as 0min 0sec or from AVI files. All these files run perfectly with other DVD software.

The attached log shows me first attempting to run a DVD, then a DVD rip and then an AVI file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI - the spec of my (laptop) computer is low, could this be a factor?:

Windows XP Sp3
1.4ghz Intel Celeron M
Graphics: Sis 128 (inbuilt)
512Mb RAM

Many thanks

Peter

See if there are any updated drivers for above, generally SIS graphics are not very good at coping with DX9 applications, this is most probably the main limiting factor to you using Mediaportal.

    :sorry:

Many thanks PD. I already have the most upto date drivers (that i could find). I suppose from my (un-informed) perspective it seems illogical that other software can run the ripped DVD files no problem, but MP can't. Its all the more frustating when there is such a tasty interface as motion picture enticing you into the film, but no joy!

Can anyone help with any other suggestions? Do my log files give any clues?

    Thanks for your help

    Hi There,

I have a Digimatrix that I am trying to tune to run MP as well. It did work fine with previous versions but with the RC2, I can't get videos to play in full screen (it works in window mode). I have a SIS 651 on it (builtin so no hope if I can't tweak it). I have noticed that codecs tunning is crucial for this video board.

Aside I have 3 clients with proper video and mb and a TV server and it is working like a charm.

As PD said, your hardware configuration is really not recommended for MediaPortal. You seem to be using PDVD8 for MPEG 2 / DVD decoding, and there seems to be something going wrong with that. Perhaps try changing back to the default MPV / MPA codecs for DVD playback and movie playback.
