hm, how many shader processors does this onboard thingy have? because i very much doubt that you will be able to play back 1080i content on a single core processor without heavily compromising quality.

to get good deinterlacing, you will either need lots of shader-power and VA-deinterlacing from the ATI chip, or you are lucky and have a good TV-display with e.g. a faroudja deinterlacer.

you should be fine for blue-ray, however.

Toms hardware has an article about the 780g chipset you should check it out. They ran test and were able to play HD content with a Sempron 3200+ (I think). Regardless of what processor they used it was a single core, with a duel core you would be more then capable of playing 1080i which is what I plan on doing soon as well.

I recently built an HTPC with the Gigabyte motherboard you mentioned. I went with a Phenom 9500 and 2 Gigs of Ram. Anyway, I was wondering if you or anyone has successful got the audio output via HDMI to work with this motherboard and Vista. It keeps telling me I don't have a cable plugged into the HDMI port, despite the fact that I am using HDMI for video which is working fine.

Edit* I figured out the problem. There was a BIOS setting I had to change. The default VGA out was set to the DVI port, so I changed it to HDMI and then sound started to work.

Please tell us if it can run 1080p h.264/mpeg2 (with no help from coreavc) flawlessly on just the onboard graphics itself.

Please write, if the Shuriken cooler fits on the MA780GM motherboard (photo?). I would like to replace the box cooler which is very noisy. How it fits with the memory modules? I have BE-2400 processor and low profile case.
