MakeMKV/Moving Pictures - DVD Name? (1 Viewer)

Evening,

I decided it was time to get my HTPC project off the ground again, after a hiatus of over 2 years!

This evening I've started to transcode my DVDs to MKV using MakeMKV, so that I can store them on my file server and play them using movingpictures on the MP HTPC.

Problem I'm come up against is that MakeMKV correctly stores the MKV files (called title00, 01 etc) inside a folder named after the DVD - as an example I'm currently doing Big Momma's House which has left me with title00, title01, title02, title03, title04 and title05 all inside a folder called BIG_MOMMAS_HOUSE which is itself inside my parent folder simply called VIDEO.

When I tell movingpictures to search inside the folder VIDEO it throws up a long list of MKV files called title01, title02 etc. and in order to import them and get the details from IMDB I'd have to enter the film names manually.

When I accidentally left the "import inserted DVD" box checked and then inserted the original DVD for Big Momma it drew all of the information from IMDB automatically, including the title.

Is it possible to somehow make it take the title from the folder name, or some other way so that I don't have to enter a film title manually each time? As I have over 2000 DVDs to work through!

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Cheers,

Marc

AW: MakeMKV/Moving Pictures - DVD Name?

There is a checkbox 'Prefer Folder Name for Movie Matching' in the MovingPictures Configuration, Importer Settings tab.

I did not test it myself, but its name suggests it will do just what you want.

Would you believe it, I've spent over an hour fiddling around with this with no joy...and within minutes of asking for help I think I've found a workaround!

If I just transcode the main movie from the DVD (so I should just have one "title**" file in the folder, and then tell MP Importer to prefer folder name, it seems to work.

Means (I guess) that I won't have any special features available on demand, but given how much HDD space my collection is going to take up this probably isn't such a bad thing and simply means that we'll have to put the disc in on the odd occasion that we want to watch something other than the actual movie.

Remains to be seen what will happen when I get on to doing my TV boxsets, but that's some way off yet!

Unless anybody has a better suggestion?

Edit: Thanks Goldneye! Great minds and all that, haha.
