I've DL'ed a couple of HDTV clips - One is a .ts package from the International Space Station in 1080p.. And it looks soooo sweet, even on the CRT, and CPU usage hovers around 25-35% - Which probbaly indicates that DxVA is doing it's job in the ole 6600.

I've also DL'ed a clip in 720p, h.264 in the Matroska container. I've installed the Matroska splitter from http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/ - and while that made it possible for MP to play the file - it's unwatchable. CPU usage hovers between 75% and maxed out - probably indicating that the GPU and it's DxVA is NOT doing what it's supposed to.. According to this page at nVidia.com,

the 6600 does have support for decoding h.264...

Any pointers as to what I'm doing wrong ?..

It's unwatchable both in MP and WMP..

[Edit] Hmmm - A little investigation in windowed mode. With the .ts stream, I can see the that the Purevideo decoder starts up properly - This doesn't happen with the Matroska clip as Matroska seems to prefer using FFDshow and it's incomplete h.264 decoding..

So I just need to get Purevideo first in line for the h.264 decoding..

As my "Edit" part of the first message showed - It's definitely a Hardware decoder (GPU, Purevideo) vs. Software decoder issue (FFDShow)..

So now the question is - Who has a working, under MP, setup, playing Matroska files with a h.264 encoded videostream, using GPU accelerated video decoding ?..

And what does that setup look like..

No - The .ts stream is Mpeg2..

Ffdshow isn't the best choise for playing back h.264 material, especially when it comes to HD material, need one hell of a computer to pull that off.
But try using CoreAVC for h.264 playback instead, imo the fastest AVC codec outthere.
I'm able to play both 720p and 1080i h.264 material on my HTPC with that codec, and thats with an Athlon 2600+

Well - I was trying to avoid using FFDshow and use the Decoding features of the GPU instead...

Just can't seem to get it to work...
