Maybe new survey would be a good idea..? (1 Viewer)

Hi all.

So RC3 has been out for a while now. i humble suggest that there should
be a new survey for MP users to record most annoying bugs, showstoppers etc..
at this point. I assume that coders have their hands full of work, so keeping
up of bug reports might be challenging. If i use bug tracker tool to see what is
currently under investigation, i can't see anything that is bugging me for example.

I understand that creating such a survey might also be tough, when thinking what to ask from
MP users.

For me it's still NoVideoAudio & Channel Scrambled error that haunts me. Adjusting wait timers for wait
timeshifting file won't help. The error might be in so many places. Common interface/card handling, filters, pmt checking, decoding pid's etc....

Other showstopper is MP gui that freezes/messes live tv, when scrolling epg/mini-epg up and down fast(more than 100 channels). After live-tv has freezed, it is predictable that next channel change will fail. Does it have something to that graph's handle to video frame gets corrupted or what, i don't know.


FInally i strongly suggest to fill bug reports, more and more. That is because developpers won't have all necessary hardware combinations, that "mass of mp users" have.

Polls / surveys aren't the right tool for error management. Correct way to handle error management is to:

1) Report errors (with all possible available information, as te3hpurp said the team has only really minimal available hardware for testing)
2) Evaluate errors (someone needs to be able to reproduce the errors)
3) Transfer errors to Mantis so they can be prioritized and tracked properly
4) Fix & verify

So, where's the bug reports? I didn't see any posts from you that could be read as a bug report. Writing proper bug reports is the only way to get issues fixed.

I agree with tourettes that normal bug reporting is best way to deal with bugs, but while looking at posts
in bugs section, i don't see a correlation between errors that are reported(good bug report or get support posts and bad bug reports) and "bug tracker",
that was the reason that rised this idea.

Other thing that worries me, is that peoples are lazy by nature. So if one files a bug report, and it won't be handled right away, he/she won't file it again.
so i'm asking you tourettes, is there a person that collects correctly filed bug reports, so that they won't get lost ?. . I mean that development slows down, if bugs get lost. If it's related for example to certain hw, it might take awhile when someone has same hw and get same error and fill new report.


You already might do this, but anyway,
I think that saving bug reports into db, will give developer(s) a good view of a hardware currently using MP. So what i'm after is that i believe that there are many of who are willing to help beyond bug reporting. For example if developer is not sure of some code line, or wants to test it, he might look at hw db of users and send a help request to test some implementation. What i'm after is stronger use of community to help on development.

Willingness to help this way might be user profile.
