Hi all

I am having trouble getting a working remote on MP. I have bought a Digitech MCE clone IR remote which I thought at the time I was buying an MCE remote. Dumb me.

It works perfectly in Windows XP SP2 with all buttons working as expected with nothing from me other than plugging it in to the usb port.

MP however just doesn't seem to see it. It accepts some windows keystrokes from it (up, down, left, right, OK) with or without the "use MCE" option checked in remotes configuration. Checking the option makes no difference at all.

Since it works fine in Windows land, I am assuming that it's identical to a genuine MCE remote but am more than happy being told it's not and it won't work. That way I can bin it and not waste any more time.

I have tried the alternatice MCE drivers and the MCE replacement plug in with no improvement.

Thanks in advance. Any help much appreciated.

Hi moving post to remote section, not much use in MP2 part of forum.

Cannot find anything on net about this remote, try as hid device or possibly x10.

In device manager, what is it recognised as.

1st off, welcome to MP :)

2nd, there are a number of similar posts around now, with the increasing number of clones becomming available.

I understand that you can usually get support added, but you need to follow some steps. try enabling extensive logging in the MCE remote section of MP, then post the logs back here. If that isn't enough, try doing some searches as RTV (who usually adds this support) has posted the steps a few times recently.

    Cheers,
    Marcus.

Hi and thanks for all the responses.

    1. I think that MP is completely unaware this remote exists. It appers in the device manager as a generic HID USB mouse and a generic USB HID keyboard.

MP logs nothing about it, with any of the remote types selected with/without extended logging. Yet some virtual keystrokes are received by MP? I don't understand.

I wondered how MP chooses the HID to use? If I take out my mouse and keyboard and left the remote as the only HID, would MP use it and everything work? Not a workable solution though, can't type email with a remote control, just a curious thought.

I was going to give up and buy a genuine MCE remote as I'm had a saga with this remote business (I had a running vDR on Debian for years and it started acting up (turns out my baby sucking on a the IR Receiver was the cause)) but I rebuilt, migrated to Ubuntu 6, then 7, then 8 and each version has had something wrong with it that meant one or another of the devices I use was unable to work. Anyway, finally turned to MP and was very excited but still can't get a $$%#()! remote working. ahahahahahaha. There's definitely a lesson here, buy supported hardware. "But then nothing would get added to the supported list" I say to myself. Anyway I will persevere with this remote now and help get it working for others if possible.

    2. REgarding teh Intelliremote, I will have a go when I can and report.

I am going away for the next few days so won't be trying anything until mid next week.

    I'll keep you posted.
