I have also posted this question on the end of another thread in the installation support forum, but think I needs it own thread to get answered.

I run XP Home with MP. To control these I purchased a MCE 2005 remote/receiver. I purchased the MCE remote because its able to put the machine into stand by (S3) and, (more importantly) resume/wake it from stand by. I had to down load the MCS (eHome) drivers separately.

The remote works excellently. However, about 90% of the time when I have woken the system from stand by (S3) the remote is unable to control anything. I have to reboot or remove the usb plug and re-insert it to regain control.

I have tried the AutoIt scripts and clicking on MP through VNC with no success, so it not a focus issue.

The problem appears to be that this particular USB device is somehow lost by windows when it goes to stand by/resumes.

Any ideas or directions to proceed in would be appreciated.

Hi and thanks for your reply i was the one that was starting to get Paranoid!!!

Try using Hibernate instead which should give a mirror image of system on shutdown.

Ah, but then i couldnt wake the system from the remote (yes, i am lazy!)

I may have found the reason for my problems last night. i am still testing so this might become void and i may well start using S4.

i am using the logitech harmony 525 remote to control everything - its great, almost.

i had added a couple of extra infrared commands (to the remote) onto the end of the sequence when i switch to my HTPC. first switch the TV to PC input, wait a few millis then select PC again. i did this because may TV will switch back to the next active input if the one i select isnt active - the PC - whose video output takes a couple of seconds to kick in.

I was in another room, updating the BIOS, using the orginal MCE remote. Guess what not a single problem, until i moved it back to the main room and the control of the Harmony remote.

So i looked again at the way i had programmed the harmony. i removed the extra commands and vola no problems since.

so as i said i am testing and its not conclusive but it appears one or more of those extra commands was somehow killing the MCE receiver...

I will update this thread if anything changes.
