    First post, please be gentle

First off - loving MP, sacked of paid Satellite TV and now have EVERYTHING media related one programme. Have Avalon and been slowly perfecting MP set up for past few weeks.

So all good , apart from my damn remote, a Vista MCE clone, model number VRC-1100

The problem is only a limited amount of buttons work, which doesnt include the all important back button. I have tried for hours, messing around with event ghost, MP remote config, keyboardinputplugin, uninstalling, re-installing, I'm posting on this forum out of desperation.

Thing is, in event ghost, in the test window on the left, all buttons when pressed show the correct action, which makes it doubly frustrating.

I have tried and not really found a step by step guide for successfully getting this remote to work - can anyone help?

The official Microsoft MCE Remotes do send keyboard commands for most of their buttons too. Just the "special" buttons work differently. However, many of the rebuilts have missing or additional buttons and send different commands for some of the buttons. This is why those rebuilds are only partly or not working at all in MP.

As far as I know, those rebuilds work when using IRSS.

Thanks I will try using IRSS tonight. Just so frustrating to see ALL buttons work as they should on event ghost!

One of our dev's is also curious what's going on with the MCE remote support. He is looking at the code.
Fact is that right now, only the official Microsoft MCE remotes fully work in MP out of the box. IRSS can do the "translation" for the rebuilds.

I used to have that remote and it works perfectly well in mp with the receiver it comes with and without the need for event ghost, under remote settings though don't select mce remote, select one of the others and nearly all buttons work as you would want, can't remember which one to select now but try them all and see which is the best.

Thanks Shangostar, I tried these options before with no result

Thanks also infinite loop also. downloaded and installed IRSS as advised, additionally I had to install microsoft net 4 to get it to finish install. Programme is there in plugin processes in MP config. The remote works now still same as before but without any remotes ticked in MP config remotes.

TBH I dont really know whats going on. Could it be that all my experimentation has just broken the system somewhere?

I havent been able anywhere just to manually map a keystoke to a function.

    Attached is a new log

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi Ben,

Sorry I can't help with the remote issue - I went through this with another remote. In the end I just bought a MCE RC6 remote off eBay for about 15 quid and it worked out of the box. In fact, I now have three of these remotes, one for each room that MP is in.

Just looking at another one now for the laptop, so I can use it when it is connected to the projector.

This is the type of thing >>here<<

    Thanks porky.

Like I said above, I've over the weekend done a clean install of win7. I only have win 7, MePo and a few other essential programs all sitting on a fresh 60gig SSD - man, I recommend this to any one. Everything is now running so fast and sweet.

Bit of a ball-ache re-ordering TV and sorting out codecs but worth the hassle.

I'm still tinkering and getting things right until the last job, getting this damn remote to be fully functional, wish me luck!

If all else fails I'll have to buy a new remote like the one you suggest
