This is an old trouble which does have a little annoying workaround. My system language is French and my keyboard is also set to French(Belgium). Then Mediaportal does not react when I am pressing the numbers on the remote to access directly the channels.
Now if I switch my default Keyboard to English (US), Mediaportal reacts and channels got accessed directly by pressing the numerical keys of the remote.
