MP Ver: 0.2.1.0
MP Skin: Any
Windows ver: XP
Remote: MCE Ver. 2

Hey guys - got MP working just about perfectly, so I bought an MCE remote off of eBay - I attached it and it started working right away, but I tried out the play/ff/rew etc. buttons and they didn't do anything. I tried configuring from MP, and it looks like they are configured just fine. I started reading about using MCE remotes, and it looks like the config that I probably wanted was to use girder with the MCE replacement driver, for complete control.

Replacement driver/girder config (out of scope for this forum, but listing it for completeness):
I tried installing, but it couldn't find the device - looks like because it's a DELL branded remote that it didn't have the info in the .inf file for it. I was able to get it installed by hacking it, but afterward, girder wasn't able to learn anything. Messed with it for a while, decided to go back to the MS driver - reinstalled, back to square one.

MCE Replacement Plugin:
Then after looking more, I noticed that someone wrote a MCE Plugin that worked with the MS driver. I tried it out as well, but when I try to learn a button, it fails.

I'm not sure what else to do, short of buying a different remote. If anyone can help me out with this, it would be much appreciated!

With that plug-in I have found that unless you have installed the replacement driver for the remote the learning function will not work. The documentation says that you don’t have to, but my experience has been that it won’t work without it.

Thanks for the help -- I've since found the "Use General HID device" option, which makes the play, ff, rew etc. work. Almost there - I only need a couple more functions to be done - one is the Fullscreen toggle and also the info button (F3) - The help button on the remote is mapped to F1 -- tried to go to the config in MP to change either of these two functions to F1, but it doesn't appear to be configurable. I would like to either:

Configure the remote to send the commands that I want
    or
Configure MP to deal with the keys that the remote does send

Any ideas on how to do either?

Looks like that remote is not compatible to the MCE remotes branded by Microsoft (and some other OEMs). It's controlled by HID commands, that's why this part works. Sorry to say that, but that remote is not fully compatible with MP's implementations.

Find out what's under the hood of this remote and someone might have a solution for you. Until then, you have to be satisfied with the HID controlled buttons, I'm afraid.
