I've just done a fresh install of RC2 and have a small problem. It appears that the MCE remote cannot control the volume. Using the '-' and '=' keys adjusts the volume fine, but I am unable to control the volume with the remote. I've looked at the MCE remote setup and I think it is fine (I have not made any change from the defaults). The previous release and all previous SVN seemed to work fine.

I enabled the extended logging to obtain a log, but can't see where this log might be. Can anyone tell me so I can provide a log file (or solve the problem myself)?

Try either uninstalling the ehome drivers and reinstalling or simply plug the receiver into another usb port as this may reset the volume controls, has been reported by other users with the same problem and fixed it.

Why this seems to happen, no one has pinpointed at this moment in time, but it can happen on any update from what i have read.

Thank you for the suggestion, but it hasn't made any difference. It seems strange that it appears that the only buttons effected is the volume buttons. Everything else works fine?

You could go into the Media Portal setup, and select the Microsoft remote option. In here you can remap functions of the remote. Might be worth seeing if the volume options have been removed.

You can also press the option to reset back to defaults while on this screen, which could get it working.

Thanks, but I have also tried this too. The entry seems to be correct (if I understand how it is supposed to work). I have attached a screen capture with the volume entries showing.
